A SERP, or search engine results page is a page served by Google in response to a web search. It includes unpaid organic search results and paid AdWords ads.

Influencing SERPs can be done through SEO.

SERPS all have a unique url that includes the query used to generate the page, given by the 'q' parameter in the url. You can use Analytics packages such as Google Analytics to watch which queries are driving traffic to you. However, be careful of only using Google's reporting for queries that drive traffic, as Google has been known to misreport queries.
